Increasing Resilience at Work

This two-day workshop aims to enhance participants’ ability to adapt, cope, and thrive in the face of challenges and change. This workshop includes a full Hogan Development Survey assessment (HDS) and feedback session in advance.

  • Introduction to Emotional Intelligence:

We will start by providing a solid foundation on emotional intelligence, its definition, and its significance in leadership and team effectiveness. Participants will gain insights into the different components of emotional intelligence as defined by the EQi model.

    Self-Awareness:

We will delve into the first component of emotional intelligence, self-awareness. Through various exercises and assessments, participants will explore their own emotions, strengths, and areas for development. They will gain a deeper understanding of their impact on others and their ability to regulate their emotions effectively.

    Self-Management:

Building on self-awareness, participants will learn strategies and techniques to manage their emotions, stress, and impulses. We will explore techniques for enhancing self-control, adaptability, and resilience in the face of challenges. Participants will develop practical skills to maintain composure and make thoughtful decisions under pressure.

    Social Awareness:

The workshop will then shift focus to social awareness, emphasizing empathy and understanding the emotions of others. Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to emotions in others, fostering stronger interpersonal connections, and building positive relationships.

  • Relationship Management:

We will delve into the final component of emotional intelligence, relationship management. Participants will explore strategies for effective communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork. They will learn techniques to influence and inspire others, build collaborative relationships, and create a positive and supportive work environment.

    Application of Emotional Intelligence:

Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in experiential activities, case studies, and group discussions to apply emotional intelligence concepts to real-world scenarios. They will develop action plans to leverage emotional intelligence in their specific roles, promoting team cohesion, and enhancing leadership effectiveness.

    Continued Development:

The workshop will conclude with a discussion on ongoing development and the integration of emotional intelligence into daily work practices. Participants will explore strategies for self-reflection, feedback-seeking, and continuous improvement to further develop their emotional intelligence skills beyond the workshop.

  • Understanding Resilience:

Participants will gain a deep understanding of resilience, exploring its definition, components, and importance in the workplace. We will examine how stress influences your own leadership behaviours.

    Building Personal Resilience:

The workshop will provide practical strategies and techniques to build personal resilience. Participants will learn effective stress management techniques, emotional regulation strategies, and methods for fostering a growth mindset. These skills will enable leaders and team members to bounce back from setbacks, maintain motivation, and sustain high performance.

    Enhancing Team Resilience:

We focus on fostering resilience at the team level. Participants will learn how to create a supportive and inclusive team culture that encourages open communication, collaboration, and mutual support. Team resilience-building exercises will be introduced to enhance cohesion, problem-solving, and collective coping strategies.

  • Developing Adaptive Leadership:

The workshop will explore the role of adaptive leadership in promoting resilience. Participants will learn how to lead with flexibility, agility, and a solution-oriented mindset. We will discuss effective communication strategies, decision-making under uncertainty, and strategies for leading through change.

As part of a leadership development programme which Helen had developed, I was encouraged to dig deeper and reflect.
Many aspects of this programme led me to develop more confidence in myself and not only become a better leader but become a more empathetic person.

“The great German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer drew an analogy between humans’ and hedgehogs’ discomfort with social proximity. In cold weather, hedgehogs cluster together for warmth but soon find that their spines hurt each other. Yet when they withdraw, they very quickly get cold again. Eventually, after a lot of shuffling and reshuffling, they find the optimum distance for warmth and comfort. For human hedgehogs, this conundrum—our simultaneous need for closeness and distance—is a fundamental reason why people often find it so difficult to work successfully in groups, teams, organizations, and civil society. - Manfred Kets De Vries”
