Group Coaching
Group Coaching
Overview
What is Group Coaching?
As an accredited group coach and psychologist, I offer a safe, reflective and confidential space for teams to explore their unique dynamics. By creating this facilitated and collaborative space, courageous conversations take place.
My approach requires that the group all wish to explore the psychological system in which they are currently operating in. I am specifically trained to use methodology designed by Professor Manfred Kets De Vries ( renowned leadership scholar and psychoanalyst) which offers a series of carefully designed exercises to lead the team to ultimately achieving their best performance .
I integrate concepts from psychodynamic psychology and systems theory to understand and work with groups in a coaching context.
Understanding the groups dynamics
Through understanding each other’s influences , and the impact of interpersonal dynamics on thoughts, feelings, and behaviours; critical conversations can take place in a delicate and carefully facilitated manner.
Recognising that group dynamics are influenced by these underlying psychological factors, we can bring them to the surface to facilitate both personal and collective growth.
Understanding the systems.
Groups are complex systems with interconnected parts. Each member brings individual thoughts, emotions, and actions which impact the group as a whole.
Taking time to understanding what each person experiences in the group and how this manifests in the group's patterns, roles, and relationships leads to clarity.
Understanding the group.
In the initial stages, I observe how the group members interact, communicate, and establish hierarchies or alliances. Through careful observation and active listening, I identify recurring themes and dynamics within the group. Through careful facilitation and exercises the group begins to see beneath the surface; this understanding leads to acceptance, increased communication and highly successful performance.
Exploring Patterns.
With a focus on systemic thinking, I guide the group in examining their own relational patterns. This involves exploring how individuals' behaviours and emotions impact others within the group and vice versa. By illuminating these interdependencies, I help group members gain insight into the broader dynamics that influence their experiences and relationships.
Addressing Group Goals and Challenges
As a group coach, I help the group define its goals, whether it's personal development, building team cohesion, or problem-solving. I encourage open communication, collaboration, and shared responsibility within the group. Through a psychodynamic systemic lens, I help the group identify and overcome challenges that have arisen, such as conflicts, frustration and / or resistance to change.
Facilitating Growth and Change
By integrating psychodynamic and systemic concepts, I create opportunities for growth and change within the group. I support the group in developing healthier communication patterns, fostering empathy and understanding, and promoting individual and collective self-reflection.
Through this process, group members gain insights that can lead to personal development, improved relationships, and enhanced group dynamics.
